Suggestions for use:

Sit down together with your child(ren) and write down some things they want to learn about or do each month (just ideas, these don’t have to be set in stone).

List what resources you might need to gather for these topics. Use the blank page for additional notes, for example, this could be a mind map of activities or subjects they could learn about whilst incorporating their interests.

Discuss with your child(ren) weekly how they felt the week went using the prompts on the ‘weekly check in’ sheet, you can fill it in for them or they can do it themselves if they want to.

Record some brief notes about what they learnt that week using the headings to categorise what could be classed as ‘literacy’ ‘art’ or ‘geography’ etc… We know many home educators don’t learn set subjects although noting things down under subject headings weekly could be helpful to you if you need to write annual reports in the future.

Note down any achievements or areas where more practice is needed, this will allow you to document the progress you’ve seen throughout the year.

There are also pages to summarise your monthly or yearly learning if you wish.

Print out or photocopy additional pages if needed. There are also lined, dotted, and square grid pages, a world map, a hundred square, a multiplication table, weekly planner and a resource ideas page at the back of the journal for you to print and use during your learning journey.
